This role provides end-to-end ownership of server infrastructure, virtualization, storage, backup, and security compliance. The administrator ensures optimal performance, reliability, and compliance of systems aligned with CIS benchmarks, and acts as the final escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.

The position demands advanced technical expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, Hyper-V, RHEL/OEL/SUSE, automation, security hardening, and disaster recovery across data center and hybrid cloud ecosystems.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Server Infrastructure Management (Windows & Linux):

  • Design, deploy, and maintain hybrid Windows (2016/2019/2022) and Linux (RHEL/OEL/SUSE/CentOS) environments.
  • Manage and optimize Hyper-V and OLVM/KVM clusters ensuring high availability and load balancing.
  • Plan and perform lifecycle management for HPE ProLiant Gen11 and equivalent hardware, including BIOS/ILO configuration and firmware updates.
  • Manage virtualization performance for specialized workloads, including GPU-enabled servers for AI/ML environments.
  • Conduct capacity planning, storage integration (LVM, iSCSI, NFS), and performance tuning.

Active Directory & Directory Services:

  • Architect, secure, and maintain Active Directory and LDAP infrastructures across multi-domain or hybrid environments.
  • Manage DNS, DHCP, NTP, and Certificate Authority (CA) services ensuring synchronization and stability.
  • Lead domain migrations, consolidations, and trust configuration between Linux and Windows systems.
  • Create and enforce Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and equivalent Linux hardening scripts for compliance.

Automation, Configuration Management & Scripting:

  • Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell, Bash, and Python.
  • Implement and manage automation frameworks such as Ansible or Terraform for configuration consistency.
  • Develop scripts for system monitoring, backup validation, patching automation, and compliance reporting.

Backup & Disaster Recovery (Cross-Platform):

  • Design, implement, and administer Veeam Backup & Replication and Linux-native backup strategies (rsync, Bacula, or Ansible playbooks).
  • Conduct scheduled backup integrity tests, restore validations, and DR drills in alignment with RPO/RTO objectives.
  • Implement automated backup reporting and alerting mechanisms for proactive fault detection.

Security, Compliance & Monitoring:

  • Implement and maintain CIS benchmark and STIG compliance using Microsoft SCT for Windows and OpenSCAP for Linux.
  • Perform patch management, vulnerability remediation, and security configuration audits.
  • Deploy and tune monitoring systems (e.g., SolarWinds, SCOM, Prometheus, Grafana) for real-time health tracking.
  • Manage access control, SELinux policies, firewall configurations, and audit log analysis.

Leadership, Troubleshooting & Collaboration:

  • Serve as the final escalation point (L3) for complex incidents across OS platforms.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and develop preventive action plans.
  • Mentor L1 and L2 administrators, review configurations, and enforce ITIL-aligned operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with network, storage, application, and security teams to ensure infrastructure integrity and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Maintain detailed runbooks, SOPs, and architecture documentation for audit and continuity purposes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Certifications (Preferred):

Technical Expertise:

  • Advanced administration of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Enterprise Linux (RHEL, OEL, SUSE).
  • Expertise in Hyper-V, OLVM/KVM, Active Directory, LDAP, DNS/DHCP, and storage subsystems.
  • Strong scripting and automation experience in PowerShell, Bash, and Python.
  • Deep understanding of CIS benchmarks, system hardening, and security compliance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in monitoring tools, patch management, and performance tuning for both OS families.
  • Proven experience managing HA clusters, replication, failover configurations, and virtualization resource optimization.

Key Attributes:

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capability.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and meet tight SLAs.
  • Continuous learner with a focus on automation, efficiency, and security compliance.

Role Summary:
The L3 Server Administrator (Windows & Linux) bridges the gap between Linux and Windows administration, offering unified control over the entire enterprise infrastructure stack.
